Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my own lock or does Big Key provide the lock for the storage space?
A: Yes and...Yes. When you move-in, we will provide you with a new, unopened, factory sealed, high-security cylinder lock; and you may use a second lock of your choice in addition if you like.

Do you keep a copy of my key?
A: No. For security reasons, only the unit holder holds the key. You are the only one in control of your unit. Management does not have keys to any of the units.

How do I pay my monthly bill?
A: We offer a variety of payment options. We accept all major credit cards, checks and cash. You can elect to have your credit or debit card automatically billed on the first of the month, pay online, through the mail, or in cash at our office.

How long is the lease term?
A: All leases are on a month-to-month basis. Feel free to rent a unit for as long or as short as you need.

What if I need to get in touch with the Manager while I'm in the storage area?
There are two-way intercoms in several areas on each floor. It's really easy to use; simply push the buttons, and call on one of our managers to help you.

Do you provide moving/rolling carts?
A: Yes, we offer generously sized, easy to use, moving/rolling carts, free of charge. They are located at the main loading entrance to facilitate moving your stuff in and out of our facility.

What is the difference between climate control and non-climate control?
A: Climate controlled units are designed to store belongings that may be climate sensitive. These units feature air-conditioning with humidity control to limit danger to stored goods in the form of mildew.  Disclaimer: While our systems will limit exposure to harsh temperatures and excessive humidity, Big Key Self Storage cannot guarantee this protection.

Non-climate controlled units are basically the same as your garage at home. These units are best suited for things that are not climate sensitive. These units are not temperature or humidity controlled but are protected from the wind and rain. All of our non-climate controlled units are drive-up accessible.

What kind of security features do you have?
A: We want you to have comfort and confidence when storing your belongings in our facility. Access to and from the facility, as well as, all activity within our state of the art facility is carefully controlled and recorded 24 hours a day. Everyone entering and leaving the facility must log in and out using a unique access PIN. Each of our units is individually alarmed and equipped with high-security locks. Additionally, we maintain a copy of all unit holders' photo identification on file.

Should I insure the stuff I'm storing?
A: Yes. Anything of value that is being stored, should be insured just as it would be in your home. The lease agreement with Big Key Self Storage Miami in no way provides insurance coverage for your belongings. However, we are authorized agents for a well-known third party insurance carrier.
